Chikungunya virus is transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti (Yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito). Although once common in Chatham County, the Yellow fever mosquito has been displaced by the Asian tiger mosquito.
